Founded in 2001, the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation aims to promote understanding between people of various religions, particularly Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. To this end, the foundation honors one individual per year as the recipient of the $30,000 El-Hibri Peace Education Prize. The award is conferred to an individual who has made significant contributions toward building more just, inclusive communities in the United States.
The foundation accepts nominations for the prize and assesses finalists based on bridge building and leadership in creating a more inclusive environment, dedication to fighting discrimination against those who are vulnerable, demonstrated experience teaching peace-making and leadership skills in marginalized communities, commitment to civic engagement, and demonstrated efforts to raise awareness about the positive effects of diversity.
