Fuad El-Hibri and his wife Nancy established the El-Hibri Foundation Peace Education Prize in 2007 to honor scholars, practitioners, and policy makers who have done outstanding work in the field of peace education. Prize winners are chosen on an annual basis by the El-Hibri Peace Education Prize Selection Committee, a group composed of previous prize laureates and other experts in the field of peace education.
The Peace Education Prize is awarded on an annual basis with the help of the public resource and service network Nonviolence International. Past winners include Abdul Aziz Said, Mary Elizabeth King, and Chaiwat Satha-Anand.
The 2013 Peace Education Prize recipient, Dr. Betty A. Reardon, has served as the founding director emeritus of the International Institute on Peace Education and the founding academic director of the Global Campaign for Peace. Dr. Reardon accepted the $20,000 award at an official ceremony in Washington, DC.
