On Sunday, July 15, an interfaith solidarity ride took place in response to a woman’s videotaped Islamophobic tirade on the S53 bus toward Staten Island the previous week. The solidarity ride was organized by Brooklyn Borough president Eric Adams, who stated that he and the other riders would encourage the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to implement a program to teach bystanders the appropriate steps to take if they encounter a similar act of hatred.
Dedicated to passenger safety, the MTA encourages any passenger who feels unsafe to contact the police or MTA personnel.
